What is a password generator?
A password generator creates random passwords that are hard to guess. People often choose short, predictable passwords such as names or birthdays, which attackers can crack quickly. A long random mix of letters, numbers and symbols is much stronger.
This tool builds the password inside your browser using your device's secure random number generator. Nothing is sent to a server or stored.
What makes a password strong
Strength comes mostly from length and randomness. A random 12-character password using upper case, lower case and numbers (62 possible characters) has roughly 71 bits of strength, while a 16-character password using letters, numbers and symbols has around 100 bits, which is vastly harder to guess because each extra character multiplies the possibilities.
Use a different password for every account, so one leaked password does not expose the rest. A password manager can store them for you, and two-step verification adds a second layer if a password is ever stolen.
Common password mistakes
The most common mistakes are using the same password everywhere, adding a number to the end of a pet or family name, and saving passwords in a notes app without protection. Attackers use lists of leaked passwords and common patterns, so anything based on a word, a date or a keyboard pattern is weak. Change a password immediately if a service reports a breach. Turn on two-step verification for your email first, because your email can reset the passwords of many other accounts.
How to use it
- Move the slider to choose a length. Sixteen characters or more is a good start.
- Tick the character types you want to include.
- Press Generate to create a new password.
- Press Copy and paste it into your account or password manager.
Practical tips
- Never reuse a password across important accounts such as email and banking.
- Store passwords in a trusted password manager instead of notes or screenshots.
- If a site rejects symbols, untick them and increase the length.
- Do not share passwords by message or email.
Frequently asked questions
Is the password really random?
Yes. It uses the secure random generator built into your browser.
Is it saved anywhere?
No. It exists only on your screen until you copy it.
How long should a password be?
At least 12 to 16 characters for important accounts.
Why does it include every selected type?
So the result always contains each kind you chose.
Can I trust a website to make passwords?
This one works fully in your browser and sends nothing, but a password manager is still the safest place to keep them.
