Discount Calculator

Enter a price and a discount.

What is a discount calculator?

A discount calculator shows the price you will actually pay after a percentage is taken off, and how much money you save. It saves you from doing mental maths in a shop queue or while comparing online offers.

It also handles a second discount applied after the first, such as an extra coupon on top of a sale, which is a common place where people misjudge the real saving.

How discounts add up

The final price is the original price multiplied by (1 minus the discount divided by 100). A 25% discount on 4,000 gives 3,000, so you save 1,000.

Two discounts do not simply add together. A 20% sale followed by an extra 10% coupon takes 4,000 to 3,200 and then to 2,880, a total saving of 1,120 or 28%, not 30%, because the second percentage is taken from the already reduced price.

Smart shopping with percentages

Retailers often show large percentages in bold, but what matters is the final price and whether you really need the item. Use the calculator to compare two offers on the same product, such as 25% off at one shop and 15% off plus free delivery at another. Watch for prices that were raised just before a sale, and remember that a stacked coupon applies to the reduced price. Writing down your budget before you shop helps you decide whether a saving is genuine or only tempting.

How to use it

  1. Enter the original price from the tag or listing.
  2. Type the discount percentage.
  3. If a second coupon applies, add it in the extra discount box.
  4. Press Calculate to see the final price and your saving.

Practical tips

More features

A mode box lets you work in three ways: find the final price, find the discount percentage from an original and a sale price, or find the original price when you only know the sale price and the discount. In the final price mode you can also add tax and a quantity to see the total you pay.
