Date Difference Calculator

Choose two dates to see the difference.

What is a date difference calculator?

A date difference calculator tells you how much time lies between two calendar dates. Instead of counting squares on a wall calendar you enter a start and an end date and get the answer in days, weeks, and in years, months and days.

People use it to count days to an exam or a trip, work out how long a project lasted, check notice periods, track a habit streak or see how long ago something happened.

How the days are counted

The calculator counts the days from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. From 1 January to 1 March 2026 is 59 days (31 plus 28). From 15 October to 25 December 2026 is 71 days. If you also want to count the end date itself, add one day.

The years, months and days breakdown follows real month lengths, and leap years are handled automatically, so February 29 is counted correctly. The tool counts every calendar day, including weekends and holidays, not just business days.

Real-life uses

Date differences appear in many everyday situations. Employees check the length of a notice period, tenants count days to the end of a lease, students count days before exams, and travellers check passport or visa validity. Habit trackers measure streaks, and families count the days since or until a birthday or anniversary. Project managers compare start and finish dates to see how long work really took. An exact day count avoids the mistakes that come from counting on a calendar by hand and forgetting that months have different lengths.
